Meet the Instructor
Marc Rice, 31, has collected many accolades during his career as a broadcast journalist/instructor – numerous Emmy awards, nationally recognized photographer at WESH, leader of the 2011 1st place STN convention team, not to mention instructing dozens of award-wining student journalists and filmmakers. His greatest contribution, however, cannot be measured in trophies but in the growth of the students that he has mentored. Ask anyone in the TV program about their teacher and words like “amazing”, “one-of-a-kind”, and “awesome” will be thrown around. Despite having three young children at home he still manages to find time for his students, as he has trained a large team of kids for the STN convention for two years in a row and has been known to make discreet equipment drops late at night for students struggling to meet their deadline the next day. Always willing to sit down and have a heart-to-heart with anyone who comes through his room, Mr.Rice somehow doesn’t lose sight of the individual needs of each student in the chaos of the bigger picture. A fan of striped polos, Moe’s burritoes, families, and extremely short hair cuts, this is Señor Arroz’s fifth year as a VHS teacher.
