What is STN?
STN. You’ve heard about it, you’ve seen the products of it, but what is it? STN is the Student Television Network that embraces the ‘educational components of broadcast journalism, video production, filmmaking, and media convergence by networking students and teachers with professionals in the industry.’ Every Spring, the Network hosts a national competition, known as the STN convention. Hundreds of schools and countless students from all over the United States meet in one central location in order to compete in various areas of the production field, areas including music video, PSA, sports highlight, and movie trailer. However, for Vanguard, one competition holds our attention more than any other, and that is the Sweet 16. During this competition, competing schools are given sixteen hours to plan, shoot, and produce a full and professional news broadcast. The challenge? The news broadcast must be centered around a single word. Students must find stories to produce amongst abounding chaos in the hosting city. Although time is an issue, our team gets it done. So, what is STN? STN is where we made the name of Vanguard High School known, and it’s where we will make our name famous once again this March.
